Please Get In The Pot

March 3rd 2008 18:50
There were two official who was very well known for their ferocity during the reign of Tang Dynasty (618-907). Each named Zhou Xing and Lai Jun.
One day there was an issue that Zhou Xing was attempting to take over the kingdom. Hearing that, the emperor secretly ordered Lai Jun to investigate and interrogate Zhou Xing about it. The biggest obstacle for Lai Jun was that of his good relationship with Zhou Xing.
After thinking for quite some time, he got a good solution. Lai Jun invited Zhou Xing to come to his residence just for having good talk. During the talk, Lai Jun complained that lately his effort to make the criminals and traitors open up their hidden dishonesties were of no avail.

“Do you have any other method?” asked Lai Jun to Zhou Xing. Hearing that question, Zhou Xing enthusiastically answered, “Lately I used a method that had proved to be very effective to make the criminals and traitors speak.” Lai Jun was very interested in hearing it; and asked what was the way.
Enthusiastically Zhou Xing explained the way, which was by putting the tied person into a big pot of water and then boil the water with firewood. With this, no matter how strong was the resistance, the person would eventually speak and admit his wrongdoings.
Right after hearing that, Zhou Xing secretly ordered his men to prepare a big pot of water, together with firewoods. When everything was ready, Lai Jun stood up; and with serious face said to Zhou Xing, “Under the order of the emperor, I will be asking you. If you do not answer sincerely and honestly and not admitting mistakes, I would have to request you to get in the hot water pot that we have just prepared.”

This is the best way to defeat somebody. Another effective way is to find out the weakness of the enemy, and then strike right at that weakness.
